Barnston Island will continue to be served by the RCMP

Surrey, Langley

2024-11-01 11:56 PDT

As a result of the ongoing policing transition in Surrey, Barnston Island will be served by the Langley RCMP with the support of Provincial Police Service resources, effective November 5, 2024.

Barnston Island falls under provincial jurisdiction and as the RCMP is the provincial police in British Columbia, the RCMP will remain the service provider to the Island. The decision to transition policing service from the Surrey RCMP to the Langley RCMP was made in consultation with our partners to ensure continued delivery of effective policing to Barnston Island.

To contact the police on Barnston Island:

"Langley RCMP have been working closely with our policing partners to facilitate a smooth transition and ensure the public safety on Barnston Island, says Inspector Ryan Element, Acting Detachment Commander for Langley RCMP. We are proud and ready to serve Barnston Island and the Katzie First Nation on the island.
