The BC RCMP would like to advise commuters of a traffic enforcement campaign being conducted along the Morice River Forest Service Road near Houston, BC this Fall.
A temporary RCMP detachment - the Community-Industry Safety Office (C-ISO) - was placed along the Morice River Forest Service Road following a meeting between the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs, Coastal GasLink (CGL) and RCMP on January 10, 2019. The temporary detachment allows our officers to conduct roving patrols along the corridor to ensure the safety of community members, industry employees and visitors to the area.
Frontline officers working from the C-ISO have received an increase in complaints from community members and industry employees, of vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed along the corridor. The narrow roads are gravel resulting in dust that can limit visibility for drivers. As winter approaches, attention to safe speeds is even more important, particularly as road use by residents, construction and forestry users is expected to increase.
Enforcement will occur at a variety of locations along the Morice River Forest Service Road and neighbouring roads. Motorists are asked to exercise caution and comply with speed limits.
