File # 2025-11599

North Vancouver RCMP continue to investigate serious boat collision that claimed the life of a child.

On June 7, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., North Vancouver RCMP received multiple reports of a serious collision involving a speed boat and two children on an inflatable tube being towed by another boat. It’s alleged that a speed boat travelling off the waters of Cates Park struck the two children on the inflatable tube.

North Vancouver RCMP front-line officers, along with numerous other first responders, attended the scene. Life-saving measures were applied to both children. Sadly, one child did not survive and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second child was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition.

The boat operator of the vessel that struck the inflatable tube is currently in custody as police conduct their investigation.

Alcohol and speed may have been a factor in the collision, and as the investigation continues, officers will work to uncover all available evidence pointing to the cause of this collision, said Corporal Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for the North Vancouver RCMP.

Our sincerest condolences to the child’s family and friends as they deal with this tragic loss of life. North Vancouver RCMP Victim Services is engaged and providing support to the family. Anyone affected by this tragic incident and wishing to contact Victim Services can do so by calling 604-969-7540.

Police have received multiple calls from witnesses, but there may be more out there. We are urging anyone who was on the water, witnessed the incident, and may have recorded the incident on their cell phone to call police. Anyone who has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 and quote file 2025-11599.

This was a major incident that required a response from multiple agencies. North Vancouver RCMP would like to thank everyone involved in this incident.
