2025-06-09 16:28 PDT

File # 2025-928, 2025-791, 2025-1254, 2025-1191, 2025-1820

On June 3, 2025, Smithers RCMP received a report of vandalism involving two B.C. Sheriff Service vehicles. Investigators reviewed video surveillance and, based on prior interactions, identified a suspect: 29-year-old Tearra Jean Gabrielle McBride (Mcbride) of Smithers.

Police obtained a Feeney warrant, which permits officers to enter a residence to arrest a person believed to have committed an offence. During the arrest, McBride allegedly threatened to kill our officers and their families.

As a result, McBride has been charged with one count of mischief over $5,000 and two counts of uttering threats. The charges were approved by the BC Prosecution Service. She was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 10, 2025.

These charges are the result of sustained investigative work and close collaboration with our justice partners, said Sergeant Ryan Law, Acting Detachment Commander of the Smithers RCMP. Our members put in a tremendous amount of effort to move this file forward and ensure that public safety remains our top priority.

McBride is also facing charges in connection to several other investigations in the region:

McBride’s matters are scheduled under multiple court files, including:

We understand that repeat incidents can be frustrating and concerning for the public. It’s important to clarify that police do not decide who stays in jail. Once charges are approved, it’s the court’s role to determine whether an individual will be released or held in custody. Courts consider several legal factors, including risk to public safety, the likelihood of appearing in court, and the nature of the alleged offence.

As these matters are now before the courts, no further information will be released at this time.

Note: The term allegedly is used throughout this release to reflect the fact that these matters are before the courts. The presumption of innocence applies, and these allegations must be proven before the courts.
