Pedestrian succumbs to injuries following highway collision

North Cowichan/Duncan

2025-05-07 10:36 PDT

File # 2025-6904

Police are investigating after a 17-year-old pedestrian died in hospital after being struck on highway.

On May 6, 2025 at approximately 8:40 p.m., North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP responded to a report of a motor vehicle incident involving a pedestrian on the Trans-Canada Hwy at Trunk Rd in Duncan.

Early evidence gathered at the scene indicated that a semi truck was travelling southbound on the Trans-Canada Hwy when it hit a pedestrian.

The pedestrian was transported to hospital but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries.
A traffic reconstructionist attended the scene to conduct a comprehensive examination and collect further evidence to advance the investigation.

Part of the investigation will be to determine the actions of the pedestrian and the semi-truck prior to the collision, said Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the BC RCMP. However, at this point in the investigation, criminality is not a factor in this incident.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522.
