That’s the premise behind a fun literacy program for students in grades 2 through 4, which has a goal of getting kids excited about reading, while creating positive relationships within our community.
Mission RCMP’s Youth Liaison Officer, Constable Johanna Robinson, recently visited grade three students at Mission Central Elementary, where she read them a story, then gave the children an opportunity to ask questions about what it’s like to be a police officer.
Mission RCMP have partnered with the Mission School District and the Mission Library for the program, which has been connecting with students at Mission Central Elementary and Deroche Elementary this year. Even Mission RCMP’s Officer in Charge, Inspector Lewko, has spent time reading to the students. As part of the program, the children also receive a library card, and are encouraged to visit the Mission Library, where they will find clues to help solve an exciting mystery. The final solution to the mystery will be revealed at a celebratory wrap-up at the library on June 13th.
Look for Mission RCMP to visit your child’s school soon!
