Powell River RCMP participate in neurodiverse/autistic decal program

The BC Association of Chiefs of Police (BCACP) has launched a significant initiative to support neurodiverse individuals and those living with autism in the community.

The BCACP has distributed decals that will serve as essential communication tools that inform law enforcement and other first responders about the presence of neurodiverse individuals.

Decals can be placed on houses and vehicles to alert first responders and signal them to engage with neurodiverse individuals in a way that will help accommodate unique needs and sensitivities.

The goals of the decals is to promote a sense of safety by reassuring people with autism that there is an increased likelihood of receiving appropriate and empathetic responses from first responders and also to prompt police and first responders to adapt their approach, expectations and communication styles when dealing with individuals.

Decals can be picked up at the Powell River RCMP detachment Monday–Friday between 9-5pm.
