Update:
At approximately 1:30 p.m. today Surrey RCMP responded to a 911 hang up call at a residence in the area of 162 Street and 88 Avenue. Through investigation, police learned a man associated to the residence was armed and barricaded inside the home.
Several officers from Surrey Detachment responded to the area and with assistance from the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team, the man was safely taken into police custody at 5:42 p.m.
88 Avenue between 160 Street and 164 Street had been closed throughout the afternoon while the incident unfolded but roads are now re-opening.
Surrey RCMP thanks the public and the media for their assistance.
Surrey RCMP responding to unfolding event
Surrey RCMP are currently responding to an unfolding event at a single family residence in the area of 88 Avenue. There is a heavy police presence in that neighbourhood at this time and there is no risk to public safety.
88 Avenue is currently closed between 164 Street and 160 Street, including 162 Street. Police are asking motorists to use 80 Avenue or 96 Avenue as alternate routes.
More information will be released when it becomes available.
