Two police vehicles were damaged and a woman was arrested, following what began as a report of a person sleeping inside a suspicious jeep.
On Sunday Feb. 23, 2025, at approximately 7:45 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 800-block of Desmond Avenue for a check well-being request. According to the report, an unresponsive woman was in the front seat of a strangely parked jeep, with the driver’s side door open, and a broken rear passenger window. While officers were en route, the jeep departed.
As part of the investigation, police discovered the jeep had been reported as stolen from 100-Mile House earlier this month, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson. Soon after, a Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP officer located the vehicle in Heffley Creek and unsuccessfully attempted a traffic stop, during which the jeep struck a police cruiser.

With the support of Barriere RCMP and the Southeast District RCMP Highway Patrol, the driver was successfully stopped following another collision with a police vehicle.
Both officers were uninjured; the police vehicles received minor damage. A woman was arrested without incident and held for a bail hearing.
Cory Leah Maack, 45 years old, of 100 Mile House, is charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property, and driving while prohibited. She was released on Feb. 24, with a next court appearance scheduled for March 24, 2025.
