Frontline officers of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are currently investigating a string of incidents involving a stolen white Ford F250 pick-up over the weekend. On Sunday March 2, 2025, the owner of the white Ford F250 pick-up reports to police that his pick-up truck had been stolen from the 3400 block of 16th Avenue in Vernon at approximately 12:30 am. Approximately an hour later, at 1:30am, police respond to an alarm at a business on Industrial Avenue in Lumby and discover unknown suspect(s) gained entry to the business. Police search the building; however, no suspects are located on scene and are believed to have fled. Police quickly learn a white Ford pick-up is seen leaving the area and is heading westbound on Hwy 6 toward Vernon. The pick-up is reported to have sparks trailing the rear of the vehicle making it quite noticeable.
Police patrol the area for the pick-up and quickly establish a coordinated response when the vehicle is located at College Way and Hwy 97 in Vernon. When police attempt to conduct a traffic stop with the vehicle, it flees from police; however, it is quickly located in a nearby cul-de-sac where it rams a police vehicle before it accelerates into an adjacent parking lot and through a fence. Despite police flooding the area in response, police are unable to locate the pick-up or the driver. At approximately 3:15 am, police respond with Vernon Fire Rescue to a vehicle fire involving a white Ford pick-up in the 3500 block of Centennial Drive Vernon. When police arrived on scene, police find the vehicle fully engulfed and fire crews hard at work to extinguish the blaze.
While the fire department was battling the fire, our officers canvased the area for potential witnesses or video surveillance of the incident. said Corporal Tania Finn, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, The fire is considered suspicious and police believe all these incidents to be related.
