File # 2024-2507
On Friday, April 26, 2024 Lax Kw'alaams Band Project Manager of Truth and Reconciliation called the Prince Rupert RCMP to report a mischief to property.
The Lax Kw'alaams Band had invested in billboards along Highway 16 at Tyee viewpoint, Tyee boat launch, Kwinitsa, Exchamsiks, Exstew and the Terrace entrance. It was reported that multiple signs had been vandalized by, what appeared to be, a chain saw.
The cedar was cut on the Tyee and Kwinitsa East viewpoint sign but has since been repaired. The Exstew was tipped over and remained on the ground. The Exchamshiks has been defaced and the Gitlaan sign has been removed completely. Thankfully the Tyee boatlaunch sign has not been damaged. The cost to repair and replace these signs will be well over $5000.00.
If you have any information on who may be responsible for the damage and theft, contact the Prince Rupert RCMP at (250) 624-2136.
