Fatal collision on Highway 16 near Manton Road

B.C., Smithers

2025-07-08 10:30 PDT

File # 2025-2321

On July 7, 2025, at approximately 1:21 p.m., Smithers RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a GMC pickup truck towing a flat deck trailer on Highway 16 near Manton Road, west of Smithers.

Sadly, the driver, a 70 year old man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was the only occupant in the vehicle. There is no evidence that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors to the collision. The highway was partially closed to allow for the initial investigation to take place.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the driver during this difficult time, said Cpl. Jim Preston, of the Smithers RCMP.

Police would like to thank the witness who remained at the scene to assist, as well as our partner first responders for their support at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details will be released at this time.
