On Friday October 19, 2024, the Prince George Crown Counsel office issued a warrant of arrest for 55-year-old, Prince George resident Clarence Lee Engstrom in relation to the murder of Lydia McFarlane that occurred in early July 2023. Members of the Prince George RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit effected the arrest of Mr. Engstrom on the afternoon of October 19, 2024.

Lydia McFarlane’s body was discovered on July 17, 2023 in her residence on the 1500-block of Victoria Street. The Serious Crime Unit was called in and soon after Mr. Engstrom emerged as a suspect.
The Serious Crime Unit and other specialized police services have been working on this investigation since the outset in order to see this matter brought before the courts. Sufficient evidence was obtained to allow Crown Counsel to approve the charge of second-degree murder, states Staff Sergeant Aaron Whitehouse, commander of the Serious Crime Unit.

Mr. Engstrom is currently being held in custody.
