A report of a disturbance was received by the Kitimat at approximately 2:15 am on July 11th. It was reported that yelling was heard in the Nechako Neighborhood. Patrols were conducted and two people were located. One of the persons left the area when asked, however the second person, who was intoxicated, refused to leave with someone that had arrived to take them home. The intoxicated person was arrested for causing a disturbance by being drunk in public and was lodged in the Kitimat RCMP cells, and released without charge several hours later in the morning. A Kitimat RCMP officer noticed a vehicle travelling along Lahakas Blvd south, without it’s lights illuminated, at approximately 12:15 am on July 12th. A traffic stop was initiate, resulting in an investigation into the impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The driver provided two samples of their breath into an approved screening device, resulting in a fail reading. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and their vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2024-2523)
At 11:00 pm on July 12th, officers of the Kitimat RCMP conducted a check stop on Highway 37 near Forest Ave. the officers were checking for impairment and other possible offences under the Motor Vehicle Act. The officers check approximately 20 vehicles and were pleased to find that all drivers were complying with the rules of the road. As we head into the days of summer, the Kitimat RCMP will be conducting random check stops at various locations and times within the Kitimat area. Please do not drink before you drive and remember to grab you drivers license as you head out the door. (2024-2541)
During the afternoon of July 14th, Officers of the Kitimat RCMP attended the Dyke road, Giant Spruce and river area and conducted several checks under the fisheries act as well as the BC Liquor control and licencing act. Warnings were provided for open alcohol and all persons checked while fishing were found to be compliant as required. (2024-2561)
At approximately 3:30 pm on July 15th, more checks were completed. 10 fishing licenses and gear were checked, all being compliant. Extra time was taken by the officers to chat with local fishermen and visitors to the Kitimat area. (2024-2573)
On July 16th, the Kitimat RCMP received three reports of vehicles not adhering to a posted road closure on Nalibila Ave. It was reported that three separate vehicles drove passed ‘Road Closed signs and through a construction zone. One of the vehicles was identified and the driver was spoken to. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind drivers that construction zones are set up to ensure the safety of the workers on site. Please obey all signs and direction provided as you approach any construction zones. (2024-2578/2024-2579)
A report of a theft of a truck tailgate was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on July 16th. This was the second report of a tailgate theft within a week. This vehicle was parked in the Baxter neighbourhood overnight, when it was noticed the item was missing. This investigation has included canvasing the neighbourhood for any CCTV footage that might be available. If you have also had a tailgate stolen, or have any information about who would be responsible for these recent thefts, please contact the Kitimat RCMP at 250-632-7111. (2024-2580)
Join Save on Foods and Kitimat RCMP at the Save on Foods store and the Court House parking lot this Sunday, July 21st. Save on Foods will have events going on around their store, while the Kitimat RCMP is hosting the Equipment Extravaganza. Bring a donation for the Kitimat Food bank and you can check out several different types of emergency vehicles and equipment that you may see locally that you can not normally get up close to. The event runs from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
If you have any information of crimes that have occurred in the Kitimat area, and would like to report it to the police, you can report through Northern BC Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You will stay anonymous and if your tip leads to an arrest, you may receive a reward of up to $2000.
