North Cowichan/Duncan

2025-06-17 09:34 PDT

File # 2025-9191

The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP is investigating recent reports of hate-related graffiti incidents in the downtown core of Duncan.

On June 14, 2025, RCMP received a report of antisemitic, anti-Indigenous and anti-2SLGBTQ graffiti spray-painted on the side of a building located in the 100 block of Ingram St., (File 2025-9191). The following day, two additional reports were received. The first involved similar graffiti on the exterior of a building located in the 300 block of Duncan St.,(File 2025-9240), and the second report (File 2025-9243) was graffiti sprayed with offensive language on buildings located at 191 Ingram St, and 325 Jubilee St.

All incidents occurred within close proximity and time frames to one another.

With assistance from the City of Duncan’s Bylaw Services, the graffiti is being removed as soon as possible.

We take incidents involving hate-motivated messaging seriously, said Cpl. James Grandy, BC RCMP spokesperson. Acts like this have no place in our communities, and we’re working to identify whoever is responsible.

Police are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the downtown core overnight on June 13 or June 14, or who has dash camera or surveillance footage, to please contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP.
