On Friday, September 29, 2023, at 1:31 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was on a patrol in a marked police vehicle when he detained a 37-year-old Trail man and his truck at a business in the 300 block of 15th Avenue, in Genelle, BC. The officer was searching for the man and his truck after receiving a report that the man allegedly committed an unrelated criminal offence prior to the interaction. The man was cooperative when approached by the officer.
While investigating the alleged offence, the officer made an observation that led him to believe the man’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The officer entered into a second investigation. A demand was read to the man, who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a fail.
The 37-year-old Trail man was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under Section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act. His vehicle was impounded for a period of at minimum of 30-days.
The investigation into the original criminal offence continues.
On Monday, October 2, 2023, a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was on a routine patrol when he observed wanted person Peter BURGIE driving a truck on Main Street, in Fruitvale, BC.
The officer believed that Burgie spotted the officer and his marked police vehicle after he observed Burgie drive truck into the parking of a business located in the 1900 block of Main Street. Burgie parked the vehicle, entered the business and allegedly hid in the washroom.
The officer waited outside the washroom; however, Burgie did not exit. The officer was joined by a second officer when he then disguised his voice, knocked on the door, and informed Burgie that she needed to use the bathroom. Burgie apologized to the lady-in-waiting, exited the washroom, and was immediately arrested without incident by the two officers. Burgie was taken into custody and lodged at the Trail Detachment.
