West Shore RCMP is ready to brave the cold for the Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge for Special Olympics BC.
Several West Shore RCMP officers and civilian staff will be taking part in the Vancouver Island Polar Plunge on February 16th at Cadboro-Gyro Park in Saanich.
The event kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with live music from local up and coming country singer Benson Town and will feature fun activities for the whole family - including a caricature artist and more! West Shore RCMP and other law enforcement agencies will also have booths set up.
Opening ceremonies will take place at 10:45 a.m. with the plunge happening at 11:00 a.m. .
The Capital Regional District alone has over 200 Special Olympics athletes with intellectual disabilities. The opportunities that Special Olympics can provide those athletes are life changing. I’m excited to brave the cold for such a worthy cause, said Cpl. Nancy Saggar, one of the officers going in the water.

The funds raised through the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics BC help athletes find purpose, friendships, and fitness through year-round Special Olympics sport, youth, and health programs.
Too many people with intellectual disabilities are still being left behind and forgotten by our society. For many Special Olympics BC athletes, the year-round sport, youth, and health programs are the primary place – or for too many, the only place – where they experience vital social connections, healthy physical activity, and opportunities to be seen for their abilities.
The Polar Plunge is a powerful display of respect and support for Special Olympics athletes with intellectual disabilities. On behalf of the 3,200 Special Olympics BC athletes across the province, huge thanks to everyone involved with the Polar Plunge for changing lives and building inclusion by supporting our year-round sport programs and competitions, says SOBC President & CEO Dan Howe.
