File # 2024-12664

Two men were injured yesterday in a mid day attack in Port Alberni.

On December 17, 2024 at 12:07 pm, Port Alberni RCMP received a report that two people were being assaulted in the 3000 block of 4th Ave.

Once on scene, police found a 67 year old male victim with injuries. The second victim was initially unaccounted for. A short time later, police located the second victim, a 64 year old male, at West Coast General Hospital (WCGH). The second victim suffered more significant injuries and was later transported out of community for further medical treatment.

Police spoke with witnesses and reviewed CCTV footage from area residences and businesses. A 38 year old male suspect was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Assault and Assault. The suspect was held in custody and later released with several conditions. Port Alberni General Investigation Section (GIS) has taken over the investigation.

The victims and suspect are believed to be known to each other; police do not have concern for the safety of the public. This investigation is ongoing.
