Sometime overnight on Wednesday December 11, 2024 unknown person(s) went on a campaign of destruction targeting vehicle windows, flattening tires and breaking side vehicle mirrors. The majority of the incidents were reported in the morning but are believed to have occurred between 11 PM on December 10, 2024 and 4 AM on December 11, 2024. In total, the Nanaimo RCMP have received 42 reported incidents of broken windows, flattened tires and or mirrors broken.

On Harwell Road alone, nine vehicles had windows smashed with what appears to have been done by a small projectile being fired at the vehicle. Incidents of vehicles having tires flattened and/or mirrors broken occurred in the 6900 block of the Island Highway north, 6600 block of Mary Ellen Drive, 200 block of Garner Crescent, 400 block of Pine St, 3800 and 2500 block of Jingle Pot Road and 650 Terminal Ave. All of the vehicles targeted were either parked on streets, in parkades or in parking lots.

This is very disturbing and has caused immense disruption and significant financial lose to many vehicle owners, said R/Cst Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP. If anyone has dash cam video, eye witness evidence or CCTV from the areas and times listed, please call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.

On the attached map, orange indicates vehicles that had tires deflated and blue indicates either a side mirror or window damage.
