On February 13 at approximately 7:40 p.m., the West Shore RCMP received a report of a theft that had just taken place at Walmart located at 860 Langford Parkway, Langford.
The complainant advised they had witnessed a man leave the store without paying for a cart full of household items including an air fryer, coffee maker, vacuum, cookware and more. The suspect loaded his vehicle up with the stolen goods and drove away. The complainant called police right away and provided a detailed description of the suspect and vehicle.
West Shore RCMP Frontline officers were patrolling in the area and located the vehicle within minutes of the call. The suspect (39 years old), who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was arrested for theft under $5000 and all the stolen product was recovered.
In the course of interacting with the suspect, the officer observed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and the suspect was displaying signs of drug impairment. The suspect failed a Standard Field Sobriety Test and was issued a 24-hour prohibition from driving under the Motor Vehicle Act, his vehicle was also towed. The suspect was released from custody with an Undertaking with an upcoming court date regarding the theft.
