As the days get longer and the biking trails start calling, the Sea to Sky RCMP-Squamish are reminding residents and visitors to take extra steps to prevent bicycle theft this summer.With more bikes hitting the road and trails during the warmer months, police typically see an increase in bike thefts around Squamish. Whether your bike is a daily commuter, a weekend adventure machine, or a high-end mountain bike, it’s a target for thieves if left unsecured.We live in one of the best places in the world for cycling, said Constable Kelly Wu, Media Relations Officer for the Sea to Sky RCMP-Squamish. Unfortunately, that also makes our community attractive to bike thieves. A few simple steps can make a big difference in keeping your bike safe.Prevention Tips:

If your bike is stolen, report it to police right away by calling the non-emergency line at 604-892-6100 or by visiting the detachment. If you see suspicious activity, such as someone cutting a lock or acting suspiciously around bike racks, call 911 immediately.Bike theft is a crime of opportunity, said Cst. Wu.
