2025-06-20 16:02 PDT

File # 2025-4280

On June 15, 2025, Sunshine Coast RCMP received a report of a video posted online, showing a person operating a personal watercraft under the rear overhang of the Queen of Coquitlam ferry while it was in motion.

Police located and reviewed the video, but the exact date or location of the incident has not been confirmed. Investigators have liaised with BC Ferries and Transport Canada. The investigation remains ongoing.

Operating a personal watercraft beneath the stern overhang of a moving ferry is extremely dangerous and could result in serious injury or death, says Cpl. Philip Atoui. Risking your life for social media content is reckless and irresponsible, luckily no one was injured in this instance.

If you observe dangerous or unsafe operation of a watercraft, please call 911 to immediately report it.

Anyone with more details about this incident is encouraged to contact the Sunshine Coast RCMP at 604-885-2266 & reference file # 2025-4280
