Beware of Google play gift card scams

On May 21, 2024, the Terrace RCMP responded to a report of a scam where the victims paid nearly $2000 worth in Google Play and Apple gift cards. The scammer in this instance initially posed as a UPS employee stating that there was a package to be delivered, $36,000 in value, which required a $1000 deposit.

The scammer later posed as a BC Corrections officer and eventually as an RCMP officer to further intimidate and convince the victims. All communications took place between the scammer and the victim through a text messaging platform.
