On Friday, March 7, 2025, at 4:08 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a report of the sudden death of a 20-year-old Port Coquitlam man at a local ski resort, in Rossland, BC.
The man had been skiing with his family when he took a different path down a ski run than the group. When the man did not rejoin his family a short time later, they contacted the ski patrol.
Patrollers searched the area where the man was last seen by his family. Patrollers located the man who was unresponsive after a piece of the man’s ski equipment had become entangled in a tree and restricted his ability to breathe. Patrollers attempted to revive the man at the scene before he was transported down the mountain to awaiting paramedics.
Unfortunately, the 20-year-old Port Coquitlam man did not survive his injuries.
The matter was turned over to the BC Coroner’s Service.
Our most sincere condolences to his family and friends after this very tragic and sudden event. says Sgt. Wicentowich.

On Monday, March 17, 2024, at 3:07 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP and BC Highway Patrol officers received a report about a 52-year-old Nelson man driving his vehicle erratically on Highway 22, near Genelle, BC. Officers located the man and his vehicle and detained it roadside.
A BC Highway Patrol officer observed the man’s ability to operate a motor vehicle may be impaired. A demand was read to the man who provided a breath sample roadside that resulted in a ‘pass’. The driver showed the officer that he was wearing a prescribed transdermal Fentanyl patch on his arm. The officer conducted a short investigation including consulting a medical professional then concluded that this medication caused significant impairment to the man’s ability to drive.
The 52-year-old Nelson man was issued a 24-hour Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under Section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act. His vehicle was impounded due to numerous deficiencies located by the officer.
Medication can play a serious role in impairment. Please consult with your doctor and follow all directions if you are taking any prescription medical that may affect your ability to drive, says Sgt. Wicentowich.

On Monday, March 17, 2025, at 3:45 p.m. a frontline Trail and District RCMP officer received a report about a rental scam that occurred in Trail, BC.
A 24-year-old Surrey man was relocating to Trail and he found a rental house advertised on a social media platform. The man contacted the landlord and subsequently sent $1680 via electronic transfer to secure the residence.
landlord
When the man later attempted to arrange to have someone visit the residence for an inspection, the landlord demanded more money. The man refused and the landlord ceased all communication with him. The man realized that he had been the victim of a scam.
The money is not recoverable.
The man reported the scam to the police so others may be aware and avoid falling prey to it.
Rental properties are hard to find due to a general shortage of quality, affordable residences in the area. This could happen to anyone. Please do not send money electronically before meeting the landlord or agent at the residence. This will help reduce your chances of being defrauded, says Sgt. Wicentowich.

On Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11:55 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers received a report about teenagers throwing eggs at residences in the 1800 block of Topping Street, in Trail, BC.
Officers conducted patrols but did not locate the youth. The youth may have been associated to a large residential gathering in the neighbourhood which was shut down at the request of the police due to numerous noise complaints.
The real crime here is the waste of the eggs in these inflationary times. Who can afford this kind of vandalism nowadays? says Sgt. Wicentowich.
