One man charged in relation to alleged forcible confinement

Campbell River RCMP is advising the public that a man has been criminally charged following an alleged forcible confinement.

On February 19, 2025, Campbell River RCMP responded to the 300-block of Westgate road in relation to the report that a person had been forcibly confined with a firearm. The person managed to escape prior to police arrival and the suspect fled the residence.

Later the same day, the suspect was taken into custody at a nearby location and transported to cells for processing.

During the investigation a search warrant was executed on a related residence and two firearms were seized.

On February 20, 37-year-old, Padan Cassidy Ashcroft was charged with assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and uttering threats. He remains in custody.
