Individuals arrested in Fairy Creek Watershed area

Lake Cowichan

2021-10-01 18:18 PDT

File # 2021-2242

On October 1, 2021 at approximately 9:30 a.m., Lake Cowichan RCMP responded to a complaint that a group of individuals were blocking industry workers from accessing the forestry roads in the Fairy Creek Watershed area.

When police arrived, efforts were made to negotiate with the group to allow industry vehicles to pass through. Several individuals refused and three were subsequently arrested for mischief and obstruction. They were transported to the Lake Cowichan RCMP Detachment for processing and released, with a future court date.

Police were also advised that a group of tree planters were challenged when they attended the area. Their vehicles were searched by a group of individuals and their access was delayed. Out of concerns, they ultimate chose to leave the situation and the area. Police are now investigating this interaction.

Anyone with information about these incidents are asked to contact the police.
