Terrace’s first ever Law Enforcement Torch Run, held on June 7 in support of Special Olympics BC, was a great success.
This event started at the RCMP parking lot where opening ceremonies began at 11:00 am. A crowd of Special Olympics athletes, members of the local RCMP and supporting agencies, and members of the community of Terrace gathered despite the heat.
Participants proceeded to the Xpilaxha trail to complete a 5 km walk or run where many cheers of encouragement and high fives were exchanged. The common goal was to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics BC (SOBC).

Special guest, Dave Jephson, brought his own original 2010 Vancouver Olympics torch to share with athletes and give them all a turn carrying this special torch as they completed their 5 km. (See original release.)
The event ended back at the RCMP parking lot were burgers and hot dogs were being grilled up and cold beverages served. While participants enjoyed the barbeque, prizes were awarded to top fundraisers and other prizes raffled off.
This event raised $2150 for Special Olympics BC which is great to see for this first-time event. I’d like to see this event become a regular occurrence in Terrace to continue supporting such a great organization, said Cst Kelly Cates of the Terrace RCMP.

I can’t thank business owners enough for their generosity to this event, added Cst Cates. Without them this torch run just would not have been the same.

Special thanks to the following businesses that contributed prizes or other donations to this event:
The enthusiasm of these business owners was truly impressive with many of them already eager to help out again next year.
