Additionally, while on patrol on Dogwood street in Campbell River, BC, an officer with BCHP established that a southbound Dodge Durango was traveling at a speed of 139 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. The vehicle was impounded and the driver was issued violation tickets under the BC Motor Vehicle Act for excessive speeding and no driver’s licence.

Staff Sergeant Adam Tallboy, Acting OIC of BC Highway Patrol on Vancouver Island said: We would like to provide a friendly reminder to motorists that when worn properly, seatbelts save lives. This includes wearing your seatbelt across your chest and not under your arm. Please take that extra moment prior to departing to ensure that you and your passengers are buckled up properly.

As September’s Distracted Driving and Occupant Restraint Campaign continues, motorists can expect to see stepped up enforcement of these and other unsafe driving behaviours on our highways throughout the province.
