File # 2024-911

An alleged impaired driver was stopped by police after speeding through a school zone.

On November 14, around 4:00 p.m., Gabriola Island RCMP were conducting traffic control on North Road at the elementary school and playground zone when officers stopped a vehicle that was speeding in the school zone, which was still in effect. Through their investigation officers began an impaired driving investigation which resulted in the male driver being issued a 90 day Immediate Driving Prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act and his vehicle was impounded for a period of 30 days.

The driver of the vehicle was also charged with several infractions under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Members of the Gabriola Island RCMP are doing their best to keep the community safe, said Constable Mark Biggar of the Gabriola Island RCMP. This is just one example of our efforts by keeping impaired drivers off the road, especially during daylight hours on a school days.
