File # 2025-4430

On May 26, 2025 at 3:56pm, the Fort St John RCMP received a report of a shoplifter who had stolen merchandise from a local grocery store, located at 9123 100th Street, Fort St John, BC. The suspect was in the custody by the Loss Prevention Officer on scene.

Frontline police officers attended and took the suspect into police custody. During the search incidental to arrest, an imitation firearm was located concealed on the suspect.

Dylan Skerik was arrested, held for court and is facing approved charges of Theft under $5000, Carrying Concealed Weapon, Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

This is one of the big reasons the police prefer to have the public call police to deal with suspects, no one ever knows what you are going to run into during a file, said Constable Chad Neustaeter, Media Relations Officer for the Fort St John RCMP. Imitation firearms look just like the real thing and if it had been used, that would have quickly changed the dynamics of the situation.

Skerik remains in police custody until his next court appearance on May 29, 2025.
