The Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 380 calls between October 4 and October 17, 2024. Below are some highlights of calls attended:
At approximately 8:23 pm, October 8, 2024, RCMP observed a motor vehicle offence in the area of Sparks Street and Lakelse Ave. RCMP conducted a routine traffic stop with a pickup. The officer observed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle which led to the female driver being arrested for possession of a controlled substance and a search of the vehicle was conducted. Additional items were located which were consistent with drug trafficking. A CDSA investigation is ongoing and additional information may be released when available. (2024-8846)
On October 10, 2024 while conducting traffic enforcement in a school zone RCMP observed a Ford Mustang travelling south on Sparks St. at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was determined to be travelling in excess of 70km/h through two school zones before stopping for police. During the traffic stop it was also determined that the driver did not have a valid BC driver’s license. Violation tickets were issued for speeding in a school zone and driving without a licence which amounted to over 500 dollars.
On October 12, a man reported that he had engaged in communicating with a woman on social media and the interactions involved the exchange of intimate photos. The woman then began to demand financial payment threatening she would post his personal photos online. RCMP believe the woman’s account to be a fake account and advised the man not to send payment. Police are warning the public to exercise caution when choosing to share photos online as fraudulent accounts are becoming more common.
Terrace RCMP received a report of an impaired driver leaving a local pub in Thornhill in a pickup. The suspect vehicle was located at a different establishment in Thornhill and a man and woman were still in the pick up. The officer conducted a traffic stop and observed the woman driver attempting to leave the vehicle rapidly. She was informed that she was being detained for an impaired operation investigation but continued attempts to evade police interaction. She eventually provided a breath sample which resulted in a warn. The man attempted to physically fight with the officer which led to his arrest. The woman was issued a 3-day vehicle impound, immediate driving prohibition, and a violation ticket for having no driver’s license. The woman was released on scene and advised she had a ride coming for her, while the man was later released when sober. (2024-8960)
