Kitimat RCMP weekly report June 7th - June 12th, 2024

Immediate roadside prohibition

At approximately 10:00 pm on June 6th, a Kitimat RCMP officer was at the Kitimat detachment when they witnessed a vehicle do a burn out on Lahakas Blvd. A traffic stop was conducted to investigate stunting under the Motor Vehicle act. During the traffic stop, the officer also started an investigation into the impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The driver provided two samples of breath into an approved screening device, resulting in a fail. As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and their vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2024-2020)

Excessive speed

While on routine patrols on Highway 37, a Kitimat RCMP officer noticed a vehicle travelling at an excessive rate of speed. The vehicle speed was checked by the RCMP officer's radar unit and it was found the vehicle was going 170 km/h in the 100 km/h zone. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver was issued an excessive speed, more than 60 km/h violation ticket with a $483.00 fine. The vehicle was impounded for 7 days as well. (2024-2034)

Bull-a-rama

The Kitimat RCMP are pleased to report that there were very few issues during their foot patrols during the Bull-a-Rama event that was hosted at the Tamitik Arena on June 8th. Several officers worked along side the security detail within the arena for the evening. One incident did lead to the arrest of a 45-year-old Terrace resident at approximately 12:40 am on June 9th. The male was arrested for mischief (urinating on a police vehicle), resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer and lodged into the Kitimat RCMP cells. He was later released on an Undertaking to attend court in Kitimat on a future date. (2024-2055)

Mischief to vehicle

A report of a mischief to a vehicle was received by the Kitimat RCMP on June 9th, 2024. At approximately 12:00 pm, the investigating officer was called to a residence in the Nechako neighborhood, where a vehicle was found to have been egged. The vehicle was located, and it was luckily not damaged by the egg that was noted to have been broken on it. The neighborhood was checked for CCTV, and no other vehicles were found to have been hit with eggs. (2024-2059)

Vehicle back window broken

The owner of a vehicle parked on the 1600 block of Haisla Blvd returned to their vehicle to find the rear window broken on June 10th. It was reported the vehicle was parked from 2:00 pm until 5:30 pm, with the damage happening between those times. There was nothing found to have been taken from the vehicle and no other damages found. (2024-2075)

Break, enter and theft

On June 11th, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of a break, enter and theft from a storage unit located in an apartment building. The investigating officer attended and it was reported several tools and items were stolen out of the storage unit after a lock had been cut. Evidence from the scene was seized and sent to a member of the Forensic Identification Section for assistance in identifying a suspect. This investigation is still on going. (2024-2084)

Driving complaint

A concerned driver contacted the Kitimat RCMP about how a vehicle was being driven as they headed towards Kitimat on Highway 37 on June 12th. With the description provided, a Kitimat RCMP officer was able to locate the vehicle and conduct a traffic stop. The driver was found not to be impaired, but was spoke to about ensuring they operated their vehicle safely while driving. (2024-2104)
