Disobey school bus crossing sign
On November 6, a police officer was conducting speed enforcement on Roberts Creek Road outside the elementary school. The officer observed the school bus approach, stop and activate the lights and red stop sign to alert drivers that children where exiting the bus. The officer observed a vehicle drive past the bus despite the clear indication of lights and the stop sign. The driver of the vehicle was stopped and issued a Violation Ticket and fined $167 for Fail to Stop for School Bus.
Stolen property recovered
On November 9th Sunshine Coast RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in the 4400 block of Sunshine Coast Highway. Police recovered stolen property related to a break and enter to the Brick retail store on Pratt Road in Gibsons that had occurred at 4:45 that morning. Investigation is still ongoing, charges are expected to be recommended for possession of stolen property and break and enter.
Scam
Sunshine Coast RCMP have been advised that several members of the public have received an automated phone message stating that the RCMP has information on a serious matter and to press 9 for more information. Fortunately none of the people who reported this to police pressed 9 and instead notified the RCMP. The Sunshine Coast RCMP would not, and have never sent any such automated messages to the public and/or businesses. If you receive a call with this message, please simply hang up the phone and do not engage.
Residential house fire
On November 15th at 3:00 pm, police working in the Sechelt RCMP detachment observed smoke and flames coming from a residence across the street on Burley Place. Members ran to scene and ensured houses nearby were evacuated and the 5700 block of Teredo was blocked to allow Sechelt Fire to battle the fire in the single family home. The residence had been abandoned for some time and no one was injured or located inside. Sechelt Fire Department is continuing their investigation.
Impaired driving
Sunshine Coast RCMP members stopped 3 impaired drivers within 90 minutes in Gibsons on November 12th. All three were issued driving prohibitions and had their vehicles impounded. One of the drivers had no vehicle insurance and another was driving with a suspended driving license as well as being impaired by alcohol. With the holiday season approaching there will be an increase in impaired driving check stops on the Sunshine Coast.
