Hit and Run
On January 11th at 12:20 pm, police and paramedics responded to a report of a two vehicle collision on the Sunshine Coast Hwy near Byng Road in Roberts Creek. A red Chevrolet had collided with a gray Toyota Yaris after the Yaris had veered into oncoming traffic. The Chevrolet driver was transported to hospital and the Yaris driver had left the scene prior to police attending. Anyone who witnessed this incident and who has not already spoken with police is asked to contact the Sunshine Coast RCMP at 604-885-2266, File 2025-244 relates.
Scam
On January 14th a Roberts Creek resident called police to report being scammed of $2350. The resident reported that she received a text message from someone purporting to be her son, claiming he had dropped his phone in water and it wasn't working. The scammer asked to be e-transferred money to purchase a new phone. After sending two e-transfers, the victim became suspicious and called her son on his phone and confirmed that he had not damaged his phone and had not asked for money. This is a common scam that has victimized many people. The RCMP ask that if you receive this type of request you confirm the identity of the caller prior to sending any money.
Found Property
On January 14th a Sechelt resident turned in a suit case style Mastercraft tool case full of tools and other items that was found in the bushes in downtown Sechelt. If you have lost or had an item like this stolen, please contact the Sunshine Coast RCMP and provide a description of a few items inside as we would love to return it to you. File 2025-317 relates.
An RCMP officer on a foot patrol located a red electric guitar off of Wharf Avenue. If anyone is missing a guitar and can provide further identifiers, please call the Sunshine Coast RCMP at 604-885-2266 or attend the Sechelt detachment. File 2025-425 relates.
Prohibited Driving
On January 17th in downtown Sechelt, a RCMP officer stopped a male driving a motor vehicle known to be prohibited from driving. The male attempted to flee from police on foot, but was arrested and taken into custody. A significant amount of cash along with drug paraphernalia was seized from the man. The RCMP are continuing their investigation and will recommend charges.
Counterfeit Money
On January 21st police received a report that a man tried to pass a counterfeit Canadian $20 bill at a gas station in Gibsons. The store clerk determined it was fake and held it for police. All retailers should be wary of bills that look and feel different.
