An officer was patrolling along Harbour Avenue during the night of September 8, when an unoccupied Range Rover parked suspiciously under the CN train bridge caught his eye. Upon further investigation, the officer determined that the vehicle had been observed speeding excessively in Maple Ridge earlier in the day, and had fled when police attempted to pull it over. The owner, whom had just purchased it weeks before, has outstanding warrants for numerous offences, including a previous incident of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. The Range Rover was subsequently impounded. Strangely, the owner – the one with the warrants – has not yet contacted police about picking up his vehicle.
Several City of Mission traffic cameras have been stolen recently from various locations, the most recent of which being the intersection of Cemetery Avenue and Draper Street. Persons stealing these cameras would likely need a large ladder to reach them. Anyone who sees suspicious activity in progress around utility infrastructure should call 911.
Three vintage guitars – including a Fender, a Gibson, and a Lemans – were stolen from a residence on Cottonwood Avenue during a recent break-in. Anyone who has information about someone trying to sell these guitars locally should contact Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.
On the afternoon of September 6, a woman’s E-bike was stolen from out front of a store in the 32500 block of Lougheed Highway while she was inside shopping. Mission RCMP officers have daily briefings to exchange information about various matters from previous shifts, which includes sharing information about recently stolen items and vehicles. An officer working on September 7 was subsequently aware of the theft of the E-bike, and located it while visiting a property on Logan Avenue for an unrelated matter. The officer immediately recognized it as matching the description of the stolen one, took possession of it, and was able to return it to its rightful owner the same day.
Around 6 am on September 9, a witness reported a male using a hammer to try to break into a mail box on 1st Avenue. The male fled on his bike when he saw police, still carrying the hammer. He sped down the street, jumped off his bike, and began feverishly knocking at the door of an apartment building, to try to get someone to let him in so he could escape from police. With seconds to spare, a quick-footed officer caught and arrested the man before he could get inside. The hammer and another construction tool were seized. Instead of getting a hold of other people’s personal documents from the mailbox, the man was issued his very own personal document…with a court date on it!
