Fruitvale arena aggravated assault

On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, a 57-year-old Grand Forks man turned himself in to police at the Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment. The man was arrested by an officer for the alleged assault.

A report will be forwarded to Crown Council.

On Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 1:33 p.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report about a 47-year-old Fruitvale man who was allegedly assaulted during a hockey game at the Beaver Valley Arena located at 1777 Green Road, in Fruitvale. The alleged assault occurred during the third period of the hockey game on Wednesday, March 18, 2025, between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

Gas stolen from commercial gas tank near Fruitvale

On Friday, April 4, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., a frontline Trail and Greater RCMP officer received a report that 800 litres of gasoline had been stolen from a commercial tank in the 8000 block of Old Waneta Road, near Fruitvale, BC.

A man driving in both a red truck and white Ford truck are believed to be associated to the crime. The times of the thefts are on April 4 at 1:58 a.m., April 6 at 10:47 p.m., and April 9 at 9:53 a.m.. The man is dressed in full camouflage clothing with his face covered is seen in video surveillance footage connecting a hose to the tank on April 6.

If you have any information about who committed this theft, or the identity of the man, or whereabout of the trucks, please contact the Trail Detachment at 250-364-2566 to speak to an investigator.

Please report any suspicious activity involving this man or his trucks in the Fruitvale area. Trail RCMP suspects that thefts will continue until he is caught, says Sgt. Wicentowich

Electronic gift card fraud in Trail

On Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 3:05 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report about a person who lost $300 in a scam after sending the money electronically via gift card over email, in Trail, BC.

The person received an email from someone claiming to be a friend. The friend wanted the person to send money via electronic gift card. The person purchased a $300 gift card from an online store and send it electronically via the email to the friend.

The person then received a request to send another $600 via gift card to the friend. The person realized that it was not actually the friend but a scammer.

The money is not recoverable.

Please do not send anyone money electronically through a gift card and verify all incoming email addresses to make sure they are not fake or suspicious. Call your friend first before committing to sending money to verify the request. This is a very common scam and victims can lose thousands of dollars, says Sgt. Wicentowich

Prescription pills was not the cure in this case

On Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 8:01 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report about a person who lost $660 after sending the money electronically to a person through a social media account, in Trail, BC.

The person wanted to purchase prescription medication from a doctor advertising it through a social media website. After sending $660 electronically to the doctor, the person did not receive the desired prescription medication.

The officer advised the woman that doctors do not typically prescribe medication over social media.

The money is not recoverable.

You may not want to consume prescription medications obtained over social media, despite a doctor shortage. Please visit your doctor or a open clinic to get treatment, says Sgt. Wicentowich.

Rental scam stopped before local resident fell prey

On Sunday, April 11, 2025, a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report about a local rental scam attempt on a hopeful renter in Trail, BC.

The person saw a house advertised for rent in the area and contacted the landlord. The landlord requested $2100 for rent for a month and $1050 damage deposit.

The person was rightly suspicious due to recent online media stories about local rental frauds. The person contacted a local realtor who informed the person that the house was not listed for rent and had recently been sold.

The person did not lose any money in the attempted scam.

Please take the time to do your due diligence as this person did. It may save you a lot of money by spending a little time verifying the details, says Sgt. Wicentowich

Suddenly, a road block

On Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 12:11 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report about several obstacles placed on Bluebird Road and Walnut Avenue, in Fruitvale, BC.

The officer attended the area and located tree stumps, rocks, and sign posts laid across the middle of the road. The officer believed that this was likely a prank; however, any vehicle striking the obstacles could have sustained serious damage.

We asked the pranksters to please refrain from this kind of prank that could cause vehicle damage or injury to the vehicle occupants, says Sgt. Wicentowich

E-bike recovered, Trail RCMP looking for owner

On April 5, 2025, Trail and Greater District RCMP officers recovered this Voltbike Elegant V2 recently and now wish to identify the owner. The bike has been sprayed painted blue.
