On January 16th, 2025, officers with the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP Community Safety Unit, Indigenous Police Services, North Cowichan Bylaw, Duncan Bylaw, and inspectors from the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch participated in a joint enforcement project. RCMP and agency partners were seeking to address issues related to open liquor and drug consumption as well intoxicated persons in public in the Duncan area.
20 charges were laid under the Liquor Control Licencing Act and other Provincial Statues/Municipal Bylaws. 3 Criminal Code warrant for arrest were executed, with several grams of controlled substances and 2 weapons seized. Additionally, Police/Bylaw officers made contact with 12 groups of people committing minor Liquor/Cannabis act infractions and provided verbal warnings/education with regard to local/provincial laws.
