A request to check the wellbeing of an intoxicated youth led to the assault of two police officers and an arrest.
On Wednesday Oct. 16, 2024, around 6:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP Detachment frontline officers responded to a report involving an intoxicated youth who had left their residence. Police located the youth near Sunnycrest and Holt Street, who fled on foot briefly before being arrested for public intoxication.
The youth allegedly became combative and assaulted two police officers, using physical force and spitting directly in one’s face, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson.

The combative behaviour continued in cells, where the youth was lodged to sober up safely, then be assessed by the Integrated Crisis Response Team. The youth was later released with a court date and conditions related to the assaults.
