RCMP in Chemainus are investigating a collision which claim the life of a motorcyclist.
On July 12, 2023, just before 6:00 p.m., North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP responded to a collision at the intersection of Chemainus Rd and Cook St in Chemainus. Initial evidence gathered at the scene indicated that a motorcyclist was travelling northbound on Chemainus Rd while approaching Cook St when a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), which was travelling southbound allegedly failed to yield when turning left onto Cook St.
The motorcyclist was transported to hospital and eventually airlifted to a trauma centre. Unfortunately, the 58-year-old motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries, said Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the BC RCMP. We can’t urge enough the need for road users to be aware of their surroundings, especially during summer time when there is a high increase of motorcycles on our roads, he adds. The investigation continues.
