Mischief under $5000

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a mischief to a boat on January 30th. The boat was moored on the 400 block of Haisla Ave and it was found that a bow window had been broken. The investigating officer attended and documented the damages. A canvas of the area was done to locate CCTV footage. This investigation is still on going to identify the culprit(s) who damaged the window. (2025-362)

Hit and run

A report of a hit and run was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on January 31wt. It was reported that a vehicle had been struck by another one while being parked at a business located on the 200 block of City Centre. The driver of the vehicle that was struck was able to contact the other driver, however they continued to drive off without exchanging information. Information was provided to the investigating officer that allowed the offending driver to be located. The driver was issued a violation ticket for ‘fail to remain at the scene of an accident’ under section 68(1) MVA. (2025-382)

Single vehicle collision

At 8:28 pm on January 31st, the Kitimat RCMP responded to a single vehicle roll over collision on the 2000 block of Highway 37. The investigation found that the vehicle had slid off the road, rolling onto is roof. Lucky the only minor injury to the passenger was received by the seatbelt, no further injuries were reported. A report of a vehicle collision on the Kitamaat Village Rd near Pine Creek was received by the Kitimat RCMP at 2:35 am on February 2nd. The responding officers located the vehicle, however the there was no sign of a driver, passenger or if there were injuries as a result of the collision. Later in the day, the driver was located and confirmed that they had not suffered any injuries. (2025-397)

Scam victim reports losses

On February 5th, the victim of a scam attended the Kitimat RCMP detachment for assistance. It was reported that the victim had received a call from who they thought was their bank. They had been advised to purchase apple gift cards and provide the barcodes to receive more funds into their bank account. Unfortunately, the victim did spend a sum of money on the gift cards and provided the requested information. While providing the information, the person on the other end of the phone advised the victim not to tell or report this transaction to anyone, which immediately prompted the victim to report the incident. It was also revealed that the victim had previously provided access to his computer to the called through an app. The victim was provided with the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre information to report this incident and to attend their bank and report this incident and ensure their banking information can be re secured. Please remember that no reputable business will ever request gift cards… ever. Please ensure you pass this information along to any vulnerable family members or friends. (2025-430)
