File # 2023-38830
Recently, Chewy, a 3-year Al Paca, decided to go on a late-night unescorted jaunt around his neighborhood. Unfortunately for Chewy, he forgot to ask his owner how to get back home. The incident all started at approximately 2 AM on Tuesday November 7, 2023, in the area of South Wellington, just south of Nanaimo.
Officers were on scene quickly as it was reported that Chewy was headed for the highway. Sure enough, the officers found Chewy on Highway # I checking out the lights and sounds and seeming to enjoy himself. While it may have been fun for him, there was much concern for his safety and well-being.
Using their police vehicles to gently guide him along, they managed to convince Chewy that home was a better place for him. Around 3 AM and after some corralling, Chewy was led back to his property and reunited with his extremely worried but grateful owner.
His owner thinks that Chewy may gotten frightened for some unknown reason, and simply jumped the fence that surrounds their property. All in all, with a little creativity, the incident was successfully dealt with and the officers now have a good story to share with their work mates, said R/Cst Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
