Daajing Giids RCMP weekly report July 18th - July 26th 2024

Intoxicated in public

At approximately 3:30 pm on July 18th, the Daajing Giids RCMP was called to the 100 block of 2nd avenue for a disturbance. When officers arrived on scene they located two intoxicated individuals who had been aggressive with each other. Through investigation it was learned that one of the individuals had been striking people with his electric wheelchair and the other party took exception to this. Both parties were separated and no charges were pursued.

Driving complaint

On July 19th a report was received a vehicle being driven aggressively, possibly with an intoxicated driver. Officers made patrols looking for the suspect vehicle, but it was not located. The information given by the complaint identified the driver who currently does not hold a valid drivers license, and is prohibited from driving. The vehicle license plate indicated it did not have any insurance. Officers continue to be vigilant for the driver and the vehicle.

Intoxicated in public

At approximately 2:30 am on July 21st, the Daajing Giids RCMP was called Front St in Skidegate for a disturbance. Officers arrived on scene and located a woman laying on the side of the road. It was found that she was intoxicated and unable to care for herself, or even properly identify herself. Through public assistance the woman was identified, and the location she was staying with was found. A sober family member agreed to care for her for the night, and she was transported to their residence rather than Daajing Giids RCMP cells.

Cause disturbance

On July 22nd at approximately 07:30 am a report of a male running through the forest without a shirt was received by the Daajing Giids RCMP. Bystanders had pinpointed the location where he was, and after calling him he came out of the forest. The man was in good physical health, but was in need of medical attention and was transported to the hospital for further treatment. The Daajing Giids wishes to thank all those who assisted with this matter.

Through the remainder of the summer, the Daajing Giids RCMP will increase impaired driving enforcement with a focus around special events. Officers will continue to demonstrate zero tolerance toward impaired drivers especially at large events and music festivals. Please plan for a safe ride home!
