A 28-year-old suspect is facing charges of break and enter and theft after persistent officers and surveillance video led to his arrest after an early morning break and enter in downtown Parksville.

At 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning, Oceanside RCMP frontline officers attended to a business alarm in the 100 block of Craig Street in downtown Parksville and discovered the business had been broken into by way of a broken glass window.  A police service dog team attended, however despite tracking for quite some time, was not able to locate the suspect[s].

Fortunately, for the attending officers, the business had surveillance cameras which provided them with very clear images of the lone break in suspect. Armed with these images, the determined and persistent officers located the suspect approximately two hours later on Island Highway in Parksville and arrested him for the break and enter. The suspect was in possession of items stolen from the business and the items were returned to the owner so they could continue to operate on Saturday with minimal disruption.

The arresting officer said he and his team were laser focussed in locating the break in suspect, says Sergeant Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP. Because the business had up to date working video surveillance they could immediately provide to officers, the suspect was arrested and the stolen items were recovered and returned all within a couple of hours.

The 28-year-old man of no fixed address, but well known to Oceanside RCMP, is also a suspect in a December 2024 business break and enter investigation in downtown Parksville where forensic evidence linking him to the scene was identified.

The suspect was held in custody for a brief time, but was later released with conditions to appear in court on April 22, 2025 in relation to both break and enter investigations. Charges have not yet been laid.
