On August 1st at approximately 10:20 pm, the sound of loud music being a disturbance in the Kildala Neighbourhood was reported to the Kitimat RCMP. The investigating officer made patrols and was able to clearly hear where the music was coming from. A discussion as had with the resident regarding the loudness of the music and the noise bylaw. The resident was apologetic and turned the music down. A bylaw ticket was not issued. (2024-2791)
At 7:00 am on August 2nd, the Kitimat RCMP was alerted to a small vessel that appeared to be in distress in the Douglas Channel. A second report was received approximately 45 minutes later, also providing a description of the boat and the coordinates. Several partner agencies were dispatched for assistance and successfully located the boat. The owner was identified and it was found they had run into troubles several days earlier and had received a ride home to gather items to repair the boat. The boat was moved out of the water and secured to the shoreline. (2024-2793)
Two impaired drivers were taken off local roads in two days. On August 2nd, an officer was conducting a check stop on Dyke road at 10:30 pm. A vehicle was stopped and after providing two samples of breath into an approved screening device, the driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The following evening at 8:25 pm on August 3rd, a vehicle was observed to driving in a suspicious manner by a patrolling officer. A traffic stop was conducted resulting in this driver also providing two samples of breath into an approved screening device. The driver was found to be intoxicated and was also issued a 90 day driving prohibition and this vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2024-2804 & 2024-2818)
A 911 call was received from the Kitamaat Village at 2:05 pm on August 4th. The responding Kitimat RCMP officer attended a residence and was informed that it was an accidental call. It was reported that a child had made the call and hung up right after. A check was done to ensure that everything was ok and advise was given about what to do if this occurs again. It is very important to stay on the line and you speak to the 911 call takers if you accidently call. Hanging up causes a concern that there is an immediate risk and the officers will attend to ensure everything is okay. (2024-2827)
The manner in which a commercial vehicle was being operated along Haisla Blvd caused the concern of another driver, who contacted the Kitimat RCMP on August 6th. A description and direction of travel was provided, allowing the responding officer to locate the vehicle. With the information provided by the witness, a violation ticket was issued to the driver. (2024-2851)
On August 7th, a local resident attended the Kitimat RCMP detachment for some assistance regarding losing some money. It was reported that the resident had provided a sum of money to someone for the purchase of a narcotic, however the person never returned with the narcotic or money. A discussion was had regarding the legalities of purchasing narcotics, being in possession of narcotics and the dangers of using these substances. (2024-2861)
The Kitimat RCMP will be participating in the upcoming Healthy Kids Day at Riverlodge on August 11th at 1:00 pm. We will be set up in the Tennis courts running a bike rodeo activity station. Come out, learn how to ensure your helmet is fitting properly. Make sure your bike is in good condition and take part in an obstacle course to polish up riding skills and pick up new ones.
