On January 30 2024, at approximately 9:07 am West Shore RCMP received a report of Fed Ex delivery truck that struck a transformer box near the 200 block of Caspian Drive in Colwood.

West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit responded and determined a delivery truck driver engaged the parking break exited the vehicle to deliver an item, however the parking brake was inoperative and the truck rolled down the hill into a power box causing significant damage. The driver got back into the truck and fled the scene but was followed and stopped by a member of the public who alerted police.

Police issued a violation tickets for failure to remain at the scene and no insurance as the vehicle was without insurance since November 2023. The truck was also issued a Box 1 Notice and Order requiring the vehicle to be towed and undergo a full mechanical inspection due to parking break being inoperative. BC Hydro attended to fix the box and the power was out for a number of hours effecting homes in the area.

The transformer box was badly damaged and sparking. The driver in this instance is lucky he was not electrocuted after entering the truck and driving away. We thank the witnesses who reported this incident, said Cpl. Saggar
