Downtown patrols lead to arrest of wanted offender

While conducting proactive patrols in the downtown area, Smithers RCMP officers located and arrested Kenneth Gonu, who was known to have outstanding warrants for his arrest.

The warrants were for several offences, including break and enter, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, and theft under $5,000. Kenneth Gonu was remanded into custody and is awaiting further court proceedings.

This arrest highlights the dedication of our members who are out proactively working to keep our community safe, said Sergeant Ryan Law of the Smithers RCMP.

We have prioritized downtown patrols to address safety concerns and ensure a visible police presence in the area. Community members may notice increased patrols as part of our efforts to enhance public safety", said Staff Sergeant Mark Smaill.

Smithers RCMP will continue taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of residents and businesses.
