Reporting to the Police

Lillooet-Lytton RCMP encourage everyone to directly report any information on any crimes and public safety concerns directly to the police, either through the detachment non-emergency phone line 250-256-4244 or through 9-1-1 for emergencies.

When reporting directly to the police through a non-emergency phone line or 9-1-1, the caller is requested to provide information such as their name, date of birth, and phone number. This information is documented on a police file. A police officer can reach out to the caller to obtain more information and or to update them on police action taken in response to the initial call. The caller may be required to attend court or asked to provide a formal statement to police.

Crime Stoppers is an alternative reporting tool separate from police. Those wishing to remain anonymous when reporting information for the police to investigate can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

• Crime Stoppers was started in 1976 in efforts to engage the public to help solve a crime. Today, more than 10,000 tips are received annually from the public in British Columbia. In BC, tips have led to tens of thousands or arrests and the recovery of more than $300 million in illegal drugs and stolen property. Your tip information provides a valuable public service to keep our communities safe.
• All local Crime Stoppers programs in British Columbia act as the intermediary between the Tipster and the investigative/police agency. They are not-for-profit organizations operated by volunteers from the community. You never have to identify yourself. By providing information that Crime Stoppers will anonymously share your information with law enforcement agencies.
• Crime Stoppers does not use any form of caller identification, tracing, or tracking. We do not collect any personal information from citizens, so you remain anonymous. After submitting a tip, you will be provided a unique code to use when checking the status of your tip or picking up your reward. It is up to you to check back; we have no way of contacting you.
• Contact Crime Stoppers if you wish to remain anonymous to provide information about an unsolved case, suspected criminal activity, wanted persons, and/or missing persons. Remember, the police prefer to speak with you directly – if you are not concerned about remaining anonymous, please contact your local police.
