A Merritt man was arrested on Thursday night by the South East District Emergency Response Team after breaking into a residence with a gun and uttering threats.
On Thursday, September 5, 2024, at approximately 7:19pm Merritt front line officers were called to the 1600 block of Bann Street for a report that a man had broken into a residence with gun and uttered threats. The man fled the residence prior to police arrival and was later located and arrested at a trailer in the Diamondvale Mobile Park by the South East District Emergency Response Team.
The incident appeared to be targeted as the man was known to both the residents at the house on Bann Street and the residents at the trailer in the Diamondvale Mobile Park.
On September 6, 2024, Mr. Riley Hopkins was charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unlawfully in a dwelling house with intent to commit and indictable offence and fail to comply with probation order.
