File # 2023-2215
A police incident in Malakwa was resolved peacefully on Tuesday afternoon.
On August 1, 2023 at 10:00 a.m., the Revelstoke RCMP received a report of a distraught man at a business on the 7700 block of the Trans-Canada Highway in Malakwa. The man was believed to be armed with a knife and first responders contained him within a room in the building. While the man was no longer a threat to the public, there was a risk to officer safety if attempts were made to apprehend the man while he was still armed. The BC RCMP Southeast District Emergency Response Team, which consists of police officers specially trained and equipped to deal with high risk situations, were deployed to the scene. Efforts continued to deescalate the situation and the man eventually surrendered peacefully later that afternoon.
This is another excellent example of both front line officers, and specialized support units, working together to keep the community safe, said Staff Sergeant Kris Clark of the BC RCMP.

Although uninjured, the man was taken to a local area hospital to receive any medical treatment he might require.
