Firearms Incident in Madeira Park

On April 13, 2025, Sunshine Coast RCMP responded swiftly to a report of a serious incident in the Madeira Park area involving a firearm and threats with a knife.

A call was received from a victim who reported a male had fired a shot in their direction and threatened them with a knife. Sunshine Coast RCMP officers attended the scene promptly and safely took the accused into custody without any further incident.

During the arrest, police seized two long guns, including a loaded shotgun.

As a result of the investigation, the following criminal charges have been approved against John Hegyi:

- Pointing a firearm
- Careless use of a firearm
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Assault with a weapon
- Fail to comply with release order.

John Hegyi remains in custody for his upcoming trial.

The Sunshine Coast RCMP remains committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all its community members. This incident highlights the dedication and professionalism of the officers involved, whose swift and coordinated response prevented further harm and led to a safe resolution of a dangerous situation.
